Can you tell me something about the history of
the band?
The band started
out in 1990 with Rikard then as now on vocals backed up by a drummer and a
guitarist. This line-up recorded a demo '91 and some split singles '92-'93. Come
late '93 songs for a split-CD with Dead was written, but before the record
session the drummer backed out meaning that the guitarist took over that duty
and another guy - Urban (beeing me then) - joined the band to play the guitar.
The split was recorded in a crappy studio (not cheap though!). After that
recording me and Rikard felt that the music had strayed to far from grindcore
and decided to kick the drummer out of the band. So... back with the first
drummer (Peter) and with loads of new and grinding songs we recorded the
"Effortless Regurgitation of Bright Red Blood" CD in '94 with a friend (Joppe)
handling the bass. We liked the brutal Lo-Fi sound we got on that CD so we
returned to the same studio and recorded a demo with 17 n.
Why did you sign
to Relapse?
We had talked to them for some time about re-releasing the "Effortless..."
CD and when suddenly inspiration to write new songs returned, we felt that it
was about time that we got the CD re-released with world wide distribution. It
was also a way of letting people know that we were back until we could write
enough new tracks to fill a CD. We recorded a couple of split 7"s and a promo in
'99 which convinced Relapse about releasing our new CD as well. Armed with 38
new songs we went to the Soundlab studio and recorded "Carnivorous Erection" -
which turned out to be by far the best thing recorded by us (my opinion).
Were there any problems with the cover of
'Carnivorous Erection'?
Not really... well the CD is banned in Germany (that is great!!! - I laugh
my ass off). Aside from that there has been no real problem. They can even sell
it with the original cover in the US... something that surprised both us and
Relapse I think.
Why are did you choose Mieszko Talarczyk to
produce 'Carnivorous Erection'?
We liked the sound of
things he had recorded before us (Nasum among others), we new he understood our
music and he is a good friend of ours... so what could go wrong?
What can we expect of Regurgitate in the
future?
Grindcore!!! We want to continue to make extreme music, but
I also feel that it is important to expand your horizon when it comes to
composing music... otherwise you'll just run out of inspiration (which is what
happened in '94). So expect grindcore and expect to hear more of my (other)
musical influences mixed in with the grinding brutallity. Also
expect to see us live in Europe this summer! We play the "Fuck the Commerse"
festival in May.. and we might do a two week tour in Europe in July. So if
you're anywhere near Germany in May - go to "Fuck the Commerse".
Are there any projects involved with some of
the bandmembers?
Not really. I play around with some bands... Black/Death Metal, but nothing
serious (yet). rikard has his noise project Brain Damage - but I think it lies
dormant right now.
Is there any merchandising available?
Not anything impressive as of now... we're hoping that Relapse will
make some t-shirts or something, but I'm guessing that they are awaitning the
sales for the CD to see if it is worth the effort. We haven't even got a working
home page right now but we working on that.
